Colors has been known to influence the mood as well as feelings and for this kind of study a branch of psychology called the color psychology is the one responsible in finding out the various factors that brought about the said connection. The field of color psychology is still not well understood since human emotions are not very stable and also the psychic make-up of human beings vary from one person to another. However, psychologists have noticed that people have general as well as universal reactions to various colors that are imminent. According to the fundamental psychology people relates colors to certain bodily functions and also there is a liberal interpretation of the effects of colors to people which is rather complex. The purposes of the study of color psychology are the following: know the relation between color and personality. The second one, is to review the general as well as the broad knowledge of color psychology. The third purpose of the study in color psychology is to know and examine the various problems concerning color psychology as well as provide possible solutions and predict the output of color psychology. However, there have been many problems encountered during the research since most of emotional reactions are not easy to measure.
According to color psychology, the color wheel is divided into two areas and these are the following: the red area of the color wheel is composed of the warm colors that are active and exciting such as red as well as its neighboring hues. On the other hand, the cool colors that are composed of blue, violet and green are considered passive as well as calming. The result of this study further shows that red colors increases bodily tension and tend to have a lesser physiological effect. On the other hand, the traditional psychology does not support any of the result of color psychology stating that color influences human personality. Nevertheless, color is used by some psychiatrist in combination with some other kinds of tests in order to come up with their diagnosis since color is commonly associated with the emotion as opposed to the intellectual side of people.
In addition, psychologists studying color psychology has made used of children for their experiment in an attempt to discover if, and up to what extent color affects the human responses. By means of the children, psychologists would be able to know whether the human response to color is inborn or culturally conditioned. The result of the experiment shows that a delight in color showed emotional tendencies and the frequent use of blue or black implies self-control as well as repressed emotion.
